Then the smartphone explosion happened in the 2010s, which is where I first encountered PowerVR - on the spec sheets of high-end smartphones. They seemed to disappear from the scene entirely by the new millennium, but apparently did well enough by quietly selling graphics chip designs for cellphones and other mobile devices. Seeing the name "PowerVR" in an old gaming magazine was interesting. While researching this article, I also came across some old S3 prices, and NEC and STMicro PowerVR prices. Voodoo3's launch price was even cheaper than the original RIVA TNT and didn't add much to the comparison, so to improve readability I also removed it from the chart. When I got to about 2002, the chart got so busy that it was basically unreadable which is why I decided to yoink out Radeon for this comparison. (For others reading this thread who may find it interesting: I actually have a chart that contains 3dfx, Nvidia, and ATi and AMD Radeon cards dating back over the same period. Related question: If I do a comparison in future of AMD cards, do I need to exclude the ATi era? An incorrect format can lead to access errors. So doing more work to find older data = laziness? Note : Please make sure the format you entered is correct.
